Core Skills
Core Skills was the first module of my degree, and introduced me to the fundamentals of garment construction, screen printing, and designing based on research. For this project I explored ideas around technology within fashion, looking at designers such as Iris Van Herpen and Eunjeong Jeon, and their work's connection to the natural world. I experimented with a variety of techniques and materials to develop 5 screen printed samples, utilising embellishment and fabric manipulation. Zero waste also played a part in this project, as I created a dress using the Subtraction Cutting method, and used the offcuts to add decoration. I developed my technical sewing and pattern cutting skills making a shirt and a pair of shorts, and learnt how to use industrial sewing machines, overlockers, and button hole machines.
