FREEBODIES- Concept

My final year collection: FREEBODIES started with an exploration into modularity and methods of transformation. I was particular interested in activewear and the idea of garments that could adapt to different ways of moving and different bodies. Natural materials were key to my concept as I aimed to challenge the conventional use of elastane in activewear products, and- inspired by paper packaging- I rigorously tested laser cutting patterns to create stretch and flexibility in bio- based materials.

My love of painting and collage came through in this early work, and I explored how I could combine artisanal crafts with the functionality of active wear. Creative expression became key to my concept, and I explored ways to introduce interactivity in my collection, so that the wearer could have a creative say in how the garments looked and felt.
